License Plate Renewal

  • Paid personal property tax receipt(s) for the year(s) prior to your plate’s expiration year. Two-year plates require two years prior’s receipts, one-year plates require one year prior’s receipt. If you did not have to pay personal property tax, bring a tax waiver for the required years.

  • Proof of insurance on the vehicle. On your smartphone is fine!

  • Emissions inspection (if your car is registered in St. Charles county, St. Louis city/county, or Jefferson County) less than 60 days old, barring vehicles with emissions exemptions (electric vehicles, large diesel trucks, etc.)

  • Safety inspection less than 60 days old IF the vehicle is either older than 10 years, OR has 150,000 or more miles on the odometer.

Real ID

Getting a Real ID for the first time?

  • Identity (one acceptable document to verify full legal name and date of birth)

  • Lawful Status in the United States (one acceptable document to verify United States citizenship or immigration status)

  • Social Security Number (one acceptable document)

  • Missouri Residency (two acceptable documents verifying your Missouri residential address)

  • Additional items, such as a certified marriage license or court order, may be required to verify a new or prior name change if your name is different from the name on your identity and date of birth verification document.

Renewing your Real ID?

  • If your address and name have stayed the same, simply bring your current Real ID in.

  • If any of the information has changed, you must bring in the above documentation to prove current information.

Commercial Driver License

  • After passing your CDL skills test with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, or a certified Missouri Third Party Tester, take the completed examination to a Missouri Department of Revenue contract license office and present your current license, current CLP and required verification documents from the List of Acceptable Documents for a REAL ID-Compliant or Non REAL ID-Compliant Commercial Driver License to complete the application for a Missouri CDL.

  • Driver history and other eligibility checks conducted. Additional evaluation criteria apply to school bus endorsement applicants per provisions of Missouri law §302.272 RSMo. and State regulation 12 CSR 10-24.160. Applicable fees will apply.

  • Most first time CDL applicants with a valid CLP, will be required to pay approximately $83 (fee includes $25 skills test fee, $40 3-6 year term license transaction fee and $18 office processing fee). Fees may differ based on term of issuance and if additional knowledge testing completed or credited fees applied.

  • Applicable Restrictions added to the license based on age, self-certification of operation status, vision, and vehicle class and type used for skills testing.

Driver License, Nondriver ID, and Permit

The applicant must present one or more of the documents in each of the following categories. Additional documents may be required.

  • Identity

  • Lawful status

  • Social security number

  • Missouri residency

The applicant will also be required to present documents to verify the following information, if applicable:

  • Alternate mailing address

  • Name change

Additional documents may be required to determine eligibility for special indicators, such as Veteran, Boater Safety, or Permanent Disability indicators, or to request a change to the gender or date of birth.

Driving Records

Driver Records without Personal Information

  • You may request a driver record that does not contain the personal information of an individual. Such a record would contain only non-personal driving history, including information such as speeding tickets and other violations.

Driver Records with Personal Information

The personal information contained on all driver records is closed unless the individual requesting the record is exempt under DPPA, or has obtained express consent from the record holder (see Exemptions). Personal information includes the person's name, address, date of birth, sex, height, weight, eye color, driver license number, Social Security number, photograph, telephone number, and medical or disability information including restrictions.

  • To request your own driver record, bring your photo ID.

  • To request someone else's driver record, bring a completed Request from Driver License Record Holder (Form 468). All information must be completed including the record holder's signature and the notary's signature.
